Government is not opening schools soon. The Minister of Information, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has corrected that the government is in consultations with relevant stakeholders on the way forward to reopen schools should all the restrictions be lifted.

The Minister stated that the claims that the government was soon going to reopen schools are wrong and misreported. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah entreated the general public to exercise patience and wait for the final decision from the government as it continues consultations.

“We have noted that some media has reported that the government says it will reopen schools soon. With all due respect, that is not said by the government. The government did not announced to reopen schools soon. What we are saying is that we are currently in consultations for ideas and opinions to help the reopening of schools nationwide”,

According to the Member of Parliament, the consultations form part of the reducing of the general restrictions by the government which includes compliance to safety measures.

News claiming that the government would soon resume schools have left many parents and stakeholders anxious especially about the safety of students and teachers.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah acknowledging the doubt said, “It is okay to be nervous, it is okay to wonder how this would be done” however, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah suggested that, “we must channel those anxieties and those worries regarding answering the question, ‘what does it take, what should be the indication of a good time, what will be the best way to protect teachers, non-teachers and students if we are to open up at some point.”

The Information Minister also disclosed that the government has started consulting some Ghanaian groups as well as receiving proposals, he encouraged the citizenry to share their ideas that can help the country in the fight against the deadly novel coronavirus. He said “…The more public opinions, the better alternatives, and options we will have. Government of Ghana believes that we as a nation can do many things if we put our minds together.”
