A primary school teacher, Idris Dangana, has invented a breast cancer-detecting bra to help rural women with early detection.

The 43-year-old man quit his job as a teacher and developed his interest in learning computer and software skills. Dangana said he was touched by the story of a woman who died of breast cancer in a village in Kano, adding that it reminded him of the pains her elder sister passed through when she had breast cancer

“The worst nightmare was when I was driving and saw a woman under the sun holding a hospital card, begging for money for surgery on one of the breasts, which would cost her over N150,000. She could not wear clothes and used a veil to cover her upper body.”
The device, which is called BCScan, is fitted with Artificial Intelligence that could detect tumours that are as small as 2mm in diameter.

According to Dangana, women can be tested for as low as GHc 14 if the device is available at primary healthcare facilities and private hospitals nationwide.

He said those who intend to buy the device would be able to get it for GHc220 or GHC370

Ghanascholarship.net understands that the device has not been scientifically proven or mass-produced
