In view of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic ravaging in the global space, OLA College of Education in Cape Coast has held its 13th Congregation to officially graduate 2019 Class of Teacher Trainees and to present certificates to 393 fresh teachers who pursued programs in Early Childhood Education, Science, Mathematics and General Diploma in Basic Education.

The ceremony was done in batches within four days in accordance with social distancing and with full adherence to the COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Out of a total of 393, 121 graduated in Early Childhood Education, 215 for General Basic Education and 57 graduated in Science and Mathematics.

Graduating the fresh teachers, the Principal of the College, Rev Sister Elizabeth Amoako Arhen charged the new teachers to make teaching and learning experiences entertaining and fun, so that the children they are going to teach will enjoy going to school. He entreated them to bring a lot of innovation and creativity in their teaching, always upholding what OLA College stands for; promoting quality teaching and learning as well as academic excellence.

“We are graduating you to go out there as ambassadors of this great College, as agents of change, to go and make a difference in the lives of the Children you are going to teach” she added.

The Principal urged the graduating students not to be what she called “WhatsApp teachers” but rather make reading a part and parcel of their lives, to cultivate the habit of reading good storybooks.

“My dear fresh teachers, the future of our nation depends on how you behave and promote effective teaching and learning in your classrooms” she noted.
