If you are a foreign citizen who wants to visit the United States, you will need to get a visa. There are two types of visas: nonimmigrant visas for temporary stays and immigrant visas for permanent residence. Citizens of some countries can visit the U.S. without a visa under the Visa Waiver Program.
If you are not eligible for the Visa Waiver Program or you are traveling to study, work, or participate in an exchange program, you must apply for a nonimmigrant visa.
How to Schedule U.S. Visa Appointment
To schedule a nonimmigrant visa interview appointment, you must first complete the DS-160 online application form. Once you have completed the DS-160, you will need to pay the visa application fee.
Once you have paid the fee, you can schedule your appointment online or through the call center. You will need to have the following information and documents available when you schedule your appointment:
- A valid passport
- Your visa application fee payment receipt
- Your DS-160 confirmation page
- Your e-mail address
- If applicable, required documents based on visa class
You can reschedule your appointment once for free. If you need to reschedule your appointment more than once, you will need to pay another visa application fee.
