Tweneboa Kodua SHS students destroy school properties over strict invigilation

Some aggrieved final year students of the Kumawu-based Tweneboa Kodua Senior High School (SHS) in the Ashanti Region after helpless in writing the 2024 WASSCE Integrated Science Paper on August 3, 2024, have reportedly destroyed the school’s properties.

The candidate’s action follows the strictness of invigilators in the examination hall during the conduct of the WASSCE Integrated Science Paper on Monday, August 3, 2024.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Sekyere Kumawu, Mr Addai Agyekum, confirming the incident in an interview with Kumasi FM monitored by GeorgeWeb.org said: “I learned there were misunderstandings between the students and the teachers, but I was able to move in quickly and resolved the matter”.

According to Mr Addai Agyekum, the prospective candidates threatened to boycott the second paper because they thought the atmosphere was quite intimidating to them, consequently accusing the headmaster of being too strict.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) furthered that he spoke to the invigilators to do their work in a very friendly atmosphere but “without sacrificing legitimate discipline.”.

A source in the school told Ghanascholarship the angry WASSCE candidates went to the school’s dining hall and destroyed properties belonging to the school including their dining.

In a short video sighted by Ghanascholarship.net, a female student is heard saying “we have destroyed the properties in the dining hall, they should come and take their food, nobody will eat the food, they want us to fail“, she said in twi.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in a separate statement admonished the prospective candidates to concentrate on their books and disregard any alleged leaked examination questions.

Recall that on August 1, 2024, a leading member of the opposition NDC party, Dzifa Gunu shared some alleged leaked Integrated Science questions on his Facebook timeline claiming the Akufo-Addo government has tasked various headmaster in Senior High Schools (SHSs) to distribute the said questions to the first batch of Free SHS beneficiaries for them to pass the final examination with ease.

However, the non-profit making organization responsible for the conduct of the 2024 WASSCE in a statement denied the allegations and leakage of the question, describing the viral question papers as fake.
