If you’re planning a trip to the United States, understanding the visa application process and associated fees is essential. In this guide, we’ll break down the key information to make the payment process easy to follow.

Most visa applicants, regardless of age, are required to pay a Machine Readable Visa (MRV) application fee. This fee is applicable whether your visa is approved or not and varies based on the type of visa you’re applying for. It’s crucial to note that the MRV fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Certain individuals may be exempt from paying the MRV fee, such as those applying for A or G visas for diplomatic or official travel or J visas for U.S. Government-sponsored programs. Additionally, some individuals may not need a visa at all, like those holding valid visas for their intended travel purposes or citizens of Canada or Bermuda, excluding specific visa categories.

Remember, the visa application fees are valid for one year from the payment date, but there are limitations on how many times you can schedule an appointment with a single fee receipt. Planning is crucial to avoid paying another fee.

Issuance Fee (Reciprocity Fee)

Depending on your citizenship and visa type, you may also have to pay a visa issuance or “reciprocity” fee. This fee is separate from the MRV fee and cannot be used to schedule an appointment. If you’re renewing a previous visa and submitting your application through an interview waiver channel, pay the reciprocity fee in advance. For those scheduling an interview appointment, pay the fee at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General during the interview.

How to Pay Your Visa Fee in Vietnam

Follow these simple steps to pay your visa fee in Vietnam:

  1. Create a Profile: Log in to the online applicant system, create a profile, and ensure the displayed amount is in Vietnamese Dong (VND) if you’re making the payment in Vietnam.
  2. Schedule Your Appointment: Click on the “Schedule My Appointment” option, fill in the required visa details, and proceed to the payment screen.
  3. Payment Options: Choose “Payment Options” on the payment screen. You’ll print a deposit slip to take to a Vietnam Post location. If applying for multiple visas, only one payment is required.
  4. Visit Vietnam Post: Take the printed deposit slip, one copy of the applicant’s passport or DS160 Confirmation page, and cash to any Vietnam Post branch. Pay the exact amount indicated on the deposit slip.
  5. Save Your Receipt: After payment, save the receipt for your records. You’ll need it to schedule your interview, and it cannot be replaced if lost.
  6. Wait for Activation: Once you’ve paid the visa fee, wait until it’s activated before scheduling your interview/application. Refer to the Payment Processing Timelines provided.

Scheduling Your Interview

Whether scheduling online or via the call center, you’ll need the payment number from your printed deposit slip. Keep this number handy for a smooth scheduling process.
